The Trans­parency Act

On July 1, 2022, the Transparency Act (Åpenhetsloven) came into force in Norway. Link to article
The purpose of the Act is to promote companies’ respect for fundamental human rights and decent working conditionsamong their business partners and throughout their supply chains. A key objective is to ensure public access to information about how enterprises address and manage these issues.

Together with other measures, the Act supports Norway’s efforts to meet and uphold the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.

At its core, the law establishes a duty to carry out and report on due diligence assessments.
Due diligence involves identifying potential adverse impacts on fundamental human rights and decent working conditions related to production and supply chains, implementing improvement measures, following up, and reporting transparently on these efforts.
