NHG buys Hotel Riviera

Hotel Riviera is located by the water's edge at Verket, the former industrial area where Moss Ironworks and later M Peterson & Son operated for several hundred years. Now Norwegian Hospitality Group (NHG) is ready to write the next chapter in the development of the tourism destination in Moss.

In 2018, NHG teamed up with Höegh Eiendom and started planning the new beach hotel that opened its doors in May 2023. Now, two and a half years later, NHG is transitioning from being an operating partner to becoming the sole owner of what has long been one of the group's most ambitious hotel projects. The purchase price is reported to be 550 million kroner.

– This is a top modern green spa hotel that we have been deeply engaged in from day one. Through a very good collaboration with Höegh Eiendom, we had the opportunity to design the hotel we wanted. The hotel is developed to fit into our spa hotel portfolio, and we are therefore very happy to now purchase the property, says Thor Morten Halvorsen, owner and chairman of NHG.

Hotel Riviera in Moss has quickly established itself as a desirable destination along the Oslofjord and seamlessly integrates into Halvorsen's already large spa portfolio with well-known spa destinations such as Farris Bad, Son Spa, and Strömstad Spa.

– “We at Höegh Eiendom are very pleased that NHG is now becoming the long-term owner of Hotel Riviera. Throughout the development of the hotel, we have had a close and fruitful collaboration, and NHG's strong expertise in the operation of destination hotels makes them the right player to continue and further develop this unique offering by the fjord in Moss,” says Jan Erik Kristiansen, director of the business area Moss at Höegh Eiendom.

Unique position along the fjord

With a location just 40 minutes from Oslo and with increasingly better train connections, the hotel has an attractive position for conferences, weekend stays, business travelers and guests seeking modern wellness experiences.

The interior is designed by Anemone Wille-Våge, who has created an expression where sea and beach, warm materials, and open room solutions are central elements. The crown jewel is a unique spa penthouse with panoramic views.

– In collaboration with Höegh Eiendom, we have created a hotel with its own southern-atmosphere, where guests can truly experience the locally inspired Riviera feel, says Halvorsen.

Record year for NHG

The purchase of Hotel Riviera comes at the end of a year that will go down in the group's history books as one of the best since its inception back in the 90s.

– We are entering 2026 with a team and a portfolio of hotels that we are very satisfied with. Riviera is an iconic concept that strengthens our position in the market. Now we look forward to further developing both the hotel and the destination, concludes Halvorsen.

In total, NHG's portfolio includes 9 hotels* with 1,323 rooms. The company has just over 1,000 employees and a property portfolio of 100,300 m².
